As the honey-do list keeps growing and spring is right around the corner, we have had a great deal folks asking about the Lutyens Bench. A great spring or summertime build, you can complete this project in just a few weekends. A great addition to any lawn or patio design, this piece will make your friends and neighbors envious.

THE LUTYENS GARDEN BENCH

Designed over 100 years ago by Edwin Lutyens a British architect and designer. This is a classic bench that has the crest rail shown full size.  It is assembled with mortise and tenon joints and is a very comfortable three-seat bench.
Size: 42” high 22” wide 74” long.

In addition to the Lutyens bench another classic garden chair is the Adirondack Chair and Footstool.

Adirondack Chair & Footstool

In the early 1900's in the upper New York State Adirondack Mountains, this style of chair first appeared. The Chair has a low seat; wide arms curved back and a very comfortable footstool. The back has a single 3 position adjustment that makes it very comfortable for all.

To top off your new patio furniture, add a little nostalgia to your backyard by adding the Country Ice Box.

COUNTRY ICE BOX

Once they stood in kitchens all over America. This icebox is a reproduction, which can be used for storage, a bar, a plant stand, a TV table and just about anything you would want. This is one of our designs that we offer a complete set of hardware, as it can be difficult to locate reproduction hardware of good quality.

To compliment these great designs these tools can be a big help in the construction. The 16 pc. Forstner bit set can have your holes bored out for your back support done in mere seconds! These are some of the best bits around, and we have them here at AFD.

Forstner bits let you do things no other drill bits can.  Every furniture maker should have a set.  You will be able to make flat-bottomed holes, cut half holes on an edge, tilted holes or overlapping holes to make mortises.  These are high quality carbon bits sizes from ¼” thru 2 1/8”.

6 Piece Precision Measuring

Set Precision Calipers, Dividers, Angular Depth Gauge, Brass Vernier Caliper and a Stainless Steel Rule all in one package!  The calipers are both inside and outside and with the dividers have a 6” capacity.  This is a high quality set that is used in our shop daily.

WIN A GRIZZLY TABLE SAW: We are pleased to announce the sixth year of our Furniture Design Contest. We will award a Grizzly Table saw to the woodworker who creates the best piece of furniture from an American Furniture Design Plan. The Grizzly table saw is rated by American Woodworker Magazine in a recent comparison of table saw, as their "Best Buy".  You may also submit designs of your own. You will need to supply two color photos of your piece, a front view and a side view along with a description of the materials that you used. Your photos will not be returned. We plan to have 3 finalists and from them we will award the Tablesaw on December 15, just in time for Christmas 2008.
